Flourish with Nourish

Norcross Community Market Hosts Nourish Food Demonstrations

Saturday June 17 was the first of a series of food preparation and sampling events at Norcross Community Market as part of the new Georgia Farmers Market Association healthy eating outreach. A select few member farmers markets of the association are piloting the program to encourage eatling in season with simple food made from healthy, local ingredients available at your local farmers market.

Norcross Community Market also accepts EBT/SNAP for qualified purchases and doubles the buying power through their partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia Fresh for Less program. In addition the market participates in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program which provides vouchers to eligible senior citizens to shop at local farmers markets where there are healthy fresh food options. The value of the vouchers redeemed at Norcross Community Market is also doubled through Fresh for Less. Norcross Community Market is one of only four farmers markets in the ten county metro area participating in this federal program adminstered locally by the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Stop by Norcross Community Market Saturday June 24 for the next Nourish food demo and tasting event which is held during the regular market hours of 9 am to 1 pm. Additional Nourish dates at the market include July 15, July 22, August 19 and August 26. The demo on July 22 will feature Oldways African Heritage & Health, a multi-week program that will be offered starting in August. A small fee will be charged to cover the ingredients for this hands-on series of classes taught by Shalom Carter, food educator. There is no charge for sampling and enjoying the Nourish demonstrations at Norcross Community Market.

Additional Nourish demonstrations and outreach will be conducted outside of Norcross Community Market to target food insecure shoppers.
